Points of Interest

International Crane Foundation

The International Crane Foundation (ICF) works worldwide to halt the extinction of cranes and preserve the wetland and grassland ecosystems on which they depend. ICF is dedicated to providing experience, knowledge, and inspiration to involve people in resolving threats to these ecosystems.

Aldo Leopold Legacy Center

Considered by many as the father of wildlife management and of the United States’ wilderness system, Aldo Leopold was a conservationist, forester, philosopher, educator, writer, and outdoor enthusiast.

Parfrey's Glen

Parfrey's Glen, Wisconsin's first State Natural Area, is a spectacular gorge deeply incised into the sandstone conglomerate of the south flank of the Baraboo Hills. The exposed Cambrian strata provide excellent opportunities for geological interpretation.

Devil's Lake State Park

Spectacular scenery, a full range of recreational activities, and a full-time naturalist make this a very popular park. The nearly-10,000-acre state park is 2 miles south of Baraboo and is a unit of the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve.

The Baraboo River

The Baraboo River runs 115 miles and since removal of the old Linen Mill Dam west of the city on Oct. 11, the river has run free for the first time in 150 year earning the title of the nation's longest restored free-flowing mainstream.

Circus World Museum

The Ringling Bros. Circus was founded and wintered in Baraboo, WI, in 1884 and remained there for 34 years until 1918, the year before it merged with the Barnum & Bailey Show. The entire area has been declared a National Historic Landmark Site. One of the many local attractions Baraboo is famous for, this is a great way to spend a day for circus fans of all ages!

Man Mound Park

In Sauk County perhaps the most representative mound is that of a man, located in the Township of Greenfield, on a road appropriately named "Man Mound". Mounds in the human form are extremely rare, and though Man Mound is no longer intact, the majority of the figure can be seen by visiting the site in the county park, also named Man Mound.

Baraboo Bluffs

The Baraboo area offers a unique landscape, the hills surrounding the city created by glacial action, and in some points poke up from the flat terrain nearby to form a stark contrast.
